THE “USE” OF THE ABSURD

THE “USE” OF THE ABSURD

abs 1
Has it ever crossed your mind that what you is doing (your practice,
your efforts, all of the attempts you are making to have something
meaningful come forward in your Yoga), are pretty much in vain?

It’s the practice and your spirit that need “allegria” as we say in
Italian. Let’s begin with a headstand which I did outside under
precarious conditions (so it is not perfect and a bit
crooked…beware!).

But remember please I have practiced for so long that my hair has
turned grey and I am very much in touch with my body and well aware of
what it was doing I practiced that headstand because it was a
challenge (spirit) and I felt like it (allegria).

Balance.
In Jibhi, India, Lalit took us to a very special waterfall. After
doing various asanas (practice) beside the water, I decided to go
whole hog and get under the falls (spirit). You can imagine that the
tree pose did not come out perfectly, but acquiescing to the “absurd”
made the moment unforgettable.

abs 3
FATHER WILLIAM – Lewis Carroll

“You are old, Father William,” the young man said, “And your hair has
become very white; and yet you incessantly stand on your head – Do you
think, at your age, it is right?”

“In my youth,” Father William replied to his son, “I feared it might
injure the brain; But, now that I’m perfectly sure I have none, why I
do it again and again.”

….”You are old,” said the youth, “one would hardly suppose that your
eye was as steady as ever; Yet you balanced an eel on the end of your
nose – What made you so awfully clever?”
Practice and spirit and allegria, he answered!
